About this role

About Thinking Machines

The mission of Thinking Machines is to build AI that extends human will and judgment. We are training frontier models with Inkling, developing Tinker to let people make models their own, and crafting interfaces that broaden human-AI communication. We believe the future worth building is human, and we're hiring people who want to build it.

About the role

We’re hiring a Security Recruiter to help build the team protecting our research, infrastructure, products, and people. You’ll partner with security and engineering leaders to identify exceptional talent across security engineering, detection and response, infrastructure security, and governance, risk, and compliance.

Security hiring requires understanding how someone approaches problems, earns trust, and makes decisions under uncertainty. You’ll develop that understanding alongside our hiring teams and use it to find people who can build effective security practices in a rapidly evolving AI environment.

What you’ll do

  • Own recruiting from initial outreach through offer acceptance across security roles, including specialized individual contributors and leaders.

  • Translate hiring priorities into clear role definitions, sourcing plans, and interviews that assess the capabilities each role requires.

  • Build relationships with security practitioners through relevant communities, conferences, technical contributions, and referrals.

  • Learn the distinctions between security specialties and use that knowledge to assess candidates’ experience and motivations.

  • Help interviewers establish consistent evaluation criteria and turn interview feedback into clear hiring decisions.

  • Guide candidates through the process with thoughtful communication, discretion, and a strong understanding of the opportunity.

  • Use pipeline data and market feedback to identify bottlenecks and improve search strategy.

What you’ll bring

  • 4+ years of recruiting experience, including substantial experience hiring security professionals.

  • A record of finding and closing candidates for specialized or difficult-to-fill security roles.

  • Familiarity with security disciplines and the ability to discuss their different responsibilities credibly.

  • Strong sourcing skills and an ability to build relationships with people who are not actively looking.

  • Sound judgment when handling sensitive information and confidential searches.

  • Experience advising hiring managers and managing multiple searches with changing priorities.

Logistics

  • Location: This role is based in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY

  • Compensation: Depending on background, skills and experience, the expected annual salary range for this position is $200,000 - $275,000 USD.

  • Visa sponsorship: We sponsor visas. While we can't guarantee success for every candidate or role, if you're the right fit, we're committed to working through the visa process together.

  • Benefits: Thinking Machines offers generous health, dental, and vision benefits, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, and relocation support as needed.

As set forth in Thinking Machines' Equal Employment Opportunity policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected group status under any applicable law.

Thinking Machines Lab will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the California Fair Chance Act, the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, and any other applicable state or local fair chance ordinance or law.
