Ex-TikTok Sourcing: 250 Nashville Moderators vs 75 Bellevue Engineers

TikTok is cutting 250 Nashville moderators and 75 Bellevue Shop engineers under two different legal entities. Here is how to split the pool.

Ex-TikTok Sourcing: 250 Nashville Moderators vs 75 Bellevue Engineers

If you typed "ex-TikTok" into LinkedIn this morning, you got two cohorts glued together that do not overlap on a single skill, salary band, or next role. One is 250 content moderators in Nashville losing their jobs on October 5, 2026. The other is 75 TikTok Shop engineers in Bellevue leaving on October 19. Sending both the same outreach is why the response rate is a rounding error.

The two WARN notices, side by side

Two separate WARN notices from two different TikTok legal entities are hitting the market 14 days apart, and they share almost nothing except the parent brand. A WARN notice is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing an employer submits to a state when it plans mass layoffs, and it is the single most reliable early signal for sourcing.

Here is what actually got filed:

The Bellevue WARN was filed with the Washington State Employment Security Department on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, under the name of TT Commerce & Global Services LLC on TikTok letterhead. The Nashville closure was filed by TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, a completely different legal entity established in January 2026 with Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX each holding a 15% stake and ByteDance retaining 19.9%.

That legal-entity split matters because within a few weeks of separation, departing employees start editing their profiles to reflect the actual employer of record on their pay stub. A "TikTok" boolean will silently drop them.

Why the "ex-TikTok" filter misses both cohorts

The "ex-TikTok" filter misses because employees list the payroll entity, not the consumer brand, and neither of these WARN entities contains the word "TikTok" in the way a naive search expects. Sourcers who rely on LinkedIn's company chip end up with a pool made mostly of older ByteDance alumni, not the October 2026 cohorts they actually want.

The two entity strings you need in your boolean:

  • TT Commerce & Global Services LLC (Bellevue, TikTok Shop)
  • TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC (Nashville, trust and safety)

Add the ByteDance variants (ByteDance Inc, ByteDance Ltd), the older TikTok Inc string, and the two office buildings as location tells:

  • Lincoln Square North, 700 Bellevue Way NE for the Bellevue 75
  • Moore Building on Music Row, Nashville for the Nashville 250 (TikTok leased nearly 145,000 square feet there in 2024)

This is exactly the friction Refolk is built to remove. Instead of stacking boolean modifiers against a company chip that no longer resolves, you describe the person: "engineers who worked on TikTok Shop backend in Bellevue and are on the market before November 2026." Refolk resolves the entity aliases across GitHub, LinkedIn, and the open web and returns the ranked shortlist.

The Nashville 250: automated out, not laid off

The Nashville cohort was displaced by TikTok's own moderation automation, and the honest read is that the like-for-like market for their old role is shrinking everywhere. TikTok has moved content moderation to internal systems called AIME and TRAE, and the company says automated tools removed 97% of the content it took down between January and April 2026. Dublin, Berlin, Singapore, and Indonesia have already seen the same trust and safety cuts.

97%
of TikTok content takedowns handled by automation, Jan-Apr 2026
The mechanism behind the Nashville 250. Other platforms are on the same curve, so IC moderation seats are a shrinking market.

There is also an org design shadow. In July 2025, TikTok combined its Core Product and Trust and Safety teams into a single organization; CEO Shou Zi Chew told employees the merger would let TikTok move faster in developing safety technology. Translation: T&S individual contributor roles were being wound down a year before the WARN dropped.

What this means for outreach:

  1. Do not pitch these candidates another IC moderation seat at Meta, Snap, Reddit, or Discord. Those teams are running the same automation playbook.
  2. Do pitch policy, trust and safety program management, AI content labeling and RLHF operations, and government affairs adjacent roles.
  3. Zanna Crowley is the on-record spokesperson for the TikTok USDS Joint Venture if you need to attribute anything about the closure in a candidate memo.
  4. The Moore Building lease is a durable geo signal for at least 12 months. Nashville T&S talent will keep listing that address even after they move on.

The Bellevue 75: small, technical, and hard to replace

The Bellevue 75 are the more valuable pool per head, because they are among the very few US-based engineers who have shipped live-commerce backend at scale. TikTok Shop employs 5,205 people worldwide as of March 2026. Only about 18.7% of that headcount sits in North America, which puts the North American pool at roughly 975 people across all functions. Cutting 75 from Bellevue moves the market.

The Bellevue WARN lists job titles that read like a TikTok Shop org chart, not a generic layoff:

  • Backend and frontend engineers on seller platforms
  • Data scientists
  • Anti-fraud and governance program managers
  • Seller and creator operations staff
  • Campaign managers

A public Bellevue TikTok Shop growth ops posting lists a salary range of $183,581 to $192,534 per year, which is a useful compensation anchor if you are drafting outbound. TikTok Shop Engineering also grew fastest of any function globally (up 4.1%) while the US contracted, so these engineers were on a team that was still shipping right up to the WARN.

Who should be first-call buyers for the Bellevue 75

The natural buyers for these 75 are not FAANG. They are companies building against TikTok Shop as a competitor:

  • Amazon Live and Amazon's creator commerce group
  • Walmart Creator
  • Whatnot (live auction commerce)
  • ShopMy (creator storefronts)
  • Shopify Shop app and Shopify Collabs
  • YouTube Shopping and Instagram Shopping engineering
  • Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX portfolio companies that touch commerce, given their stakes in the USDS joint venture

Why local saturation kills the "we heard about the news" opener

Bellevue is already the most oversourced tech layoff market in the US right now, so leading with "we heard about the news" is a coin flip on getting deleted. Tech employers have laid off more than 2,620 Bellevue-based workers in the past year, and since May 2025 tech employers have collectively cut more than 10,000 Seattle-based employees.

2,620

The 75 TikTok Shop cuts land in an already-saturated sourcing pool. Generic outreach gets ignored.

For context on where TikTok's 75 sits alongside recent Washington state WARN filings:

The 75 is small enough that a good message to a named engineer beats a broadcast every time. Reference the specific product surface (seller onboarding, live shopping backend, anti-fraud), not "TikTok." Reference the exact building if you know it. Skip the sympathy opener.

A message that mentions Lincoln Square North outperforms one that mentions the layoff. One says you read; the other says you scrolled.

The outreach split: two templates, not one

The correct approach is two message tracks with different subject lines, different next-role framings, and different comp anchors. If your ATS forces one template across "ex-TikTok candidates," override it manually for this cohort or bucket the outreach in a separate campaign.

Track A: Nashville trust and safety (Oct 5 separation)

  • Subject line references policy or T&S program work, not moderation
  • Next role: policy analyst, T&S PM, AI safety operations, content labeling lead
  • Anchor: the AIME and TRAE transition, so the candidate hears that you understand automation is why they are on the market
  • Timing: message week of Sept 22 through Oct 12; earliest movers sign fastest

Track B: Bellevue TikTok Shop engineers (Oct 19 separation)

  • Subject line references live commerce, seller platforms, or marketplace, not "TikTok"
  • Next role: senior or staff backend at Amazon Live, Whatnot, Walmart Creator, Shopify
  • Anchor: the $183K to $192K comp band from the public posting, plus equity refresh
  • Timing: message week of Oct 6 through Oct 26; these 75 will have three offers by mid-November

What to build in your sourcing stack this week

Build the entity-aware list before October 5, or you will miss the Nashville cohort's fastest movers. Concretely:

  1. Add TT Commerce & Global Services LLC and TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC to your CRM as employer aliases of TikTok, not synonyms. Tag them separately.
  2. Save two searches: one for Nashville T&S with the Moore Building as a location tell, one for Bellevue TikTok Shop with Lincoln Square North.
  3. Pull the ByteDance and TikTok Inc alumni already in your ATS from the past 24 months and cross-reference against the two new entities.
  4. Write two outbound templates. Do not reuse a single "sorry to hear" opener across both.
  5. Set an alert for follow-on WARN filings from the same two entities. TikTok's US restructuring is not done.

The 75 Bellevue engineers will be off the market inside 30 days. The 250 Nashville T&S staff need a longer runway and a different pitch. Treat them as one pool and you get zero replies from either.

FAQ

How do I find ex-TikTok candidates when the LinkedIn company filter misses the new entities?

Search on the payroll entity names rather than the consumer brand: TT Commerce and Global Services LLC for Bellevue TikTok Shop, and TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC for Nashville trust and safety. Layer in ByteDance and TikTok Inc as historical employers, and use the office buildings (Lincoln Square North, Moore Building on Music Row) as location signals. Tools like Refolk resolve these aliases automatically so you do not have to keep tuning the boolean as profiles update.

Why should I treat TikTok Shop engineers and TikTok moderators as separate pools?

They do not compete for the same next role, do not screen through the same interview loops, and do not respond to the same outreach. TikTok Shop engineers in Bellevue are shipping live-commerce backend and will land at Amazon Live, Whatnot, Walmart Creator, or Shopify. Nashville moderators were displaced by TikTok's AIME and TRAE automation and should be redirected to policy, T&S program management, or AI content labeling roles rather than another IC moderation seat.

What is a WARN notice and how do I use it for sourcing?

A WARN notice is a state filing an employer submits before mass layoffs, listing headcount, separation date, filing entity, and often job titles. It is the earliest reliable signal for a specific, named cohort hitting the market. Match the filing entity to the alumni pool in your CRM, filter by city and title, and message before the separation date so the candidate is talking to you before they are talking to five other recruiters.

How much of TikTok's US workforce do these two cuts represent?

The 75 Bellevue cuts are about 4.6% of TikTok's roughly 1,628 Puget Sound employees, and about 7.7% of the estimated 975 North American TikTok Shop workforce. The Nashville 250 is a full office closure. Together they signal continued US restructuring under the USDS joint venture rather than a one-time event, so expect follow-on WARN filings from the same two entities over the next two quarters.
