About this role

Fraud Prevention Strategy Specialist

Fraud Prevention team · Berlin, Germany (office-first)

SumUp's Fraud Prevention team sits at the intersection of risk, data and global payments, working at pace to stay ahead of one of fintech's most dynamic challenges: stopping fraud at scale across multiple markets and products. In this role, you'll help protect SumUp's acquiring business globally, using data, analytical thinking and fraud prevention expertise to reduce losses while safeguarding approval rates and the experience of our merchants and their customers. You'll work on complex, high impact fraud challenges across international markets, building a deep understanding of fraud performance and turning your analysis into practical strategies that shape how we prevent fraud over time.

What you'll do

  • Shape fraud prevention strategy for SumUp's acquiring business across international markets
  • Analyse large, complex datasets to spot fraud trends, performance shifts and opportunities for improvement
  • Design, configure and test decision engine rules, thresholds and authentication strategies
  • Monitor fraud, chargeback, approval rate and false positive performance to assess strategy effectiveness
  • Investigate root causes of performance changes and recommend clear, evidence based actions
  • Translate regulatory and card scheme requirements into practical fraud controls

You'll be great for this role if…

  • Proven experience in fraud prevention, fraud strategy or risk management within payments, fintech or another data driven environment
  • Advanced skills in SQL and Python, including experience working with data pipelines and large datasets
  • Hands on experience configuring fraud decision engines, rule based systems or authentication strategies
  • Strong knowledge of Card Present and Card Not Present fraud patterns across diverse markets, with the ability to apply this knowledge to strategy
  • Ability to balance merchant conversion, approval rates, fraud losses and false positives when making decisions, and to communicate recommendations clearly to technical and senior stakeholders

It would be a plus if you have

  • Participation in industry working groups, webinars or communities focused on global fraud trends
  • Knowledge of acquirer settlement flows and interchange economics
  • Experience working with card scheme requirements or regulatory change across international payments markets
