About this role
Why join us?
We're a global tech company, just not the kind you're picturing. Our almost 1,000-person team builds tools that make work better for the three billion frontline workers who keep the world moving. We've got big tech scale, without the sign-off layers or corporate theatre. Every permanent team member gets equity, so when we grow, you do too. This next chapter is about scaling smart, powered by AI, a clear vision and real ownership. Big tech impact, without the big tech ick.
The role
We're several phases into a multi-year initiative to modernize our frontend - new tooling, a new web repo, and an architecture designed to be dramatically faster to build and iterate on than what came before. The strategy is set, the roadmap exists, and early wins are already proving out the approach. But this is very much a live, evolving effort: as the ecosystem shifts, so does the plan, and we need someone who can own that judgment call - not just execute against a fixed spec.
Just as important as the architecture itself is the human side of this role: getting other product teams across the engineering org to actually adopt the new stack. That means partnering directly with engineering managers and senior engineers on other teams, understanding what's blocking their migration, and making the case - technically and practically - for why it's worth the move.
What you'll be doing
Own and evolve our frontend architecture strategy, adapting the roadmap as new tooling, frameworks, and industry practices emerge
Lead migration efforts across the wider engineering org - this is as much about influence and communication as it is about code, working directly with other teams' managers and senior engineers to drive adoption
Run and participate in RFCs and design reviews as the primary mechanism for making and communicating architectural decisions
Mentor engineers at the senior level and below, and act as a technical sounding board for anyone in the org making frontend architecture decisions
Represent frontend thinking in broader product conversations - helping other teams (not just Web Platform) make sound technical calls on their own feature work
Develop a clear point of view on where AI tooling genuinely helps frontend development - and where it doesn't - and help set org-wide standards for how it's used
Delegate effectively: this role is about multiplying your impact through other engineers, not just being the person who does the most yourself
About you
Deep, current expertise in the React ecosystem, with strong, well-reasoned opinions on performance, tooling, and architecture - not just familiarity with "what's new"
A generalist frontend background with broad influence across the stack, rather than deep specialization in one narrow area (e.g., we're not looking for someone whose expertise is solely design systems or solely platform tooling)
A proven track record of leading technically without formal people-management authority - driving alignment through communication, documentation, and consensus rather than mandate
Genuine comfort delegating and scaling your impact through others; this role explicitly values someone who builds leverage through the team over someone who prefers to solve everything solo
Strong written and verbal communication skills - you'll be running design reviews, writing RFCs, and regularly explaining "why" to audiences well beyond your immediate team
Experience navigating ambiguity and shifting plans gracefully, given the roadmap will continue to evolve as the broader ecosystem does
A note on level
We're open to both a Staff-level hire and a high-performing Senior engineer who's ready to operate at this level of scope and influence. What matters most is technical judgment, communication, and the ability to lead through others - less so a specific title history or years-of-experience checkbox.
