Senior Software Engineer - Ledger

What You’ll Do:

Join the Roblox Ledger team and build the system of record for a global economy. Our north star is that all movement of value on Roblox is tracked on the Ledger, and that every unit of value - virtual currency, fiat, or digital asset - is accurately tracked, perfectly balanced, and fully auditable. That makes the Ledger the trusted foundation for our users, creators, and economy.

We are the source of truth for the economy in both directions: every write of value, and every read of it. The same authoritative record that settles a transaction also has to answer the questions people ask about it - balances, history, statements, reconciliation, and analytics - so that read paths do not drift from the book of record. Robux already runs entirely on our zero-balanced, double-entry ledger, and Creator Wallets launch in December 2026. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, build, and scale the systems that make this true, in a domain where correctness is the product rather than a feature.

You Have:

• 4+ years of backend software engineering experience, demonstrating proficiency in designing, building, and maintaining robust and scalable systems (e.g., microservices, APIs).
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience debugging complex issues in distributed systems.
• Experience in managing projects, planning and executing work across different workstreams.
• Strong collaboration skills, ability to work across teams and organizations, mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
• Experience in financial infrastructure, ledgers, accounting, or another domain where accuracy is non-negotiable is highly desirable. Experience building a ledger or double-entry system at another company is a strong plus.
• Experience with large-scale data or analytical systems (OLAP, event-driven pipelines, or similar) is a plus but not a requirement.

You will:

• Work closely with Finance, product, and other economy engineering teams to make every movement of value correct at the source.
• Architect, design, implement, and operate the ledger services that record every movement of value on Roblox.
• Proactively identify and address correctness, performance, auditability, and operational risks in systems where a single bad entry is a financial incident.
• Design idempotent, exactly-once write paths, plus the reconciliation that proves the books balance and the precision guarantees other teams build on.
• Own both sides of the ledger: the write path that records value, and the read path that serves balances, history, and analytics from the same source of truth.
• Uphold high standards for code quality, test coverage, and maintainability, fostering the culture of engineering excellence.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range$196,750-$243,290 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
