About this role
The role
We are hiring a motion designer to perfect Osmo Studio, our in-house video editor.
Treat it as a speedrun of our editor. Make real work in it, at pace, and push every part of it until something gives.
The editor is a game with pieces missing. Some of what you need does not exist yet. Some of it exists and is wrong. Your job is to find every missing piece and describe it precisely enough that an engineer can build it. “The retiming feels bad” is where you start. “Retiming loses easing on nested groups” is what we need.
This is not an After Effects role. The work gets made inside Osmo Studio, and it is for Osmo: product launches, feature announcements, campaigns, social.
What you’ll do
- Speedrun the editor. Make launch films, product demos, explainers and social pieces in it, at pace, including on the parts that are not finished
- Make Osmo’s own videos as well: product launches, feature announcements, campaigns, social. Our marketing runs on them
- Hunt the missing pieces. Find what breaks, what is slow, and what is not there, in enough detail that an engineer can act on it. Then sit with the product team while it gets fixed
- Push the AI toolkit hard: prompt-driven scene generation, AI-assisted asset creation, agent-directed composition, iterative refinement
- Build the library of example projects and templates that show customers what the editor can do
- Take techniques that take years to learn and help us turn them into something a non-designer can use. Decide what to expose, what to simplify, and what to hide
- Set the visual and motion language for Osmo-made work
What we’re looking for
- A strong portfolio of motion work: launch films, product videos, cinematic explainers. Work worth watching more than once. We do not care which tool you made it in
- Willingness to put your tool of choice down. If your craft is tied to one timeline and one set of keyboard shortcuts, this role will hurt
- Deep fluency in at least one professional motion environment: After Effects, Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, DaVinci Resolve, Cavalry, or similar. We want you to know how motion actually works. We do not want you to keep working there
- Obsessive detail. You notice the frame that is wrong, and you can say exactly why
- Patience for unfinished software, and a point of view you can defend
Nice to have
- Early user or design partner for beta creative software
- Generative or code-driven motion: Remotion, TouchDesigner, WebGL, p5.js, Rive
- AI creative tools in real production: Runway, Kling, Pika, ElevenLabs, Midjourney, Sora
- Brand filmmaking or startup launch content
About Osmo
Osmo is building the AI-native motion graphics studio. We help frontier startups, researchers, and creative teams turn ideas, designs, and raw assets into polished launch films, product demos, and cinematic explainers. Faster. With more taste. With real creative control.
Backed by Bain Capital Ventures, Basis Set, MVP Fund, and Collaborative Fund. Our tools already support launches for companies like Parallel, Physical Intelligence, and YC-backed teams.
AI takes the parts of motion work that were never the craft. The versioning, the re-rendering, the fifth rebuild of the same rig. Taste stays human. The whole product rests on that and we do not plan to hedge on it.
