The Accounting and Finance team at MX serves as the engine of financial stewardship, operating rigor, and compliance across our growing business. This team is responsible for managing core general ledger functions, subscription revenue accounting, tax compliance, and global financial reporting while building scalable processes that support long-term enterprise growth.

This role exists to lead our core accounting functions, drive financial accuracy, and maintain a seamless month-end close. Reporting directly to the SVP of Finance, the Director of Accounting (Controller) will balance deep technical accounting expertise - specifically around ASC 606 and subscription SaaS models - with operational execution, robust internal controls, and people leadership.

By modernizing financial systems in Workday and ensuring ledger integrity, this role directly enables data-driven decision-making across the executive team. Success in this position will streamline the financial close cycle, strengthen audit readiness, and optimize operational efficiency metrics across the entire organization.

Responsibilities

• Own and execute accurate, timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, general ledger reconciliations, consolidations, and financial statement delivery.
• Manage subscription and SaaS revenue models to ensure complete adherence to ASC 606 revenue recognition standards, deferred revenue management, and audit compliance.
• Build and maintain robust internal control frameworks, tax compliance workflows, and financial policies to protect corporate assets and maintain audit readiness.
• Lead and mentor the day-to-day accounting team across general accounting, tax, treasury, and fixed asset management functions to cultivate operational discipline.
• Optimize accounting workflows and system configurations within Workday ERP to enhance data quality, financial process automation, and operational scalability.
• Partner with cross-functional leadership to provide clear, narrative-driven financial reporting and insight that informs P&L management, Days to Close efficiency, and capital resource decisions.

Basic Qualifications (Must-Have)

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in an accounting leadership role (e.g., Accounting Director, Controller, or Assistant Controller).
• Demonstrated expertise applying ASC 606 revenue recognition principles within a SaaS, recurring revenue, or subscription-based business model.
• 7+ years leading end-to-end month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles for complex corporate entities.
• 7+ years managing or administering enterprise accounting and ERP systems (e.g., Workday ERP).

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or equivalent professional certification.
• 3+ years of direct experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4 or regional tier) combined with corporate fintech or high-growth SaaS experience.
• Demonstrated experience driving enterprise software implementation, Workday optimization, or financial process automation.
• Hands-on experience establishing or managing global tax compliance, treasury, and internal control frameworks.
• Proven track record managing, coaching, and scaling mid-to-large corporate accounting teams.
