About this role
About Lucid
At Lucid, we are creating exceptional mobility experiences through innovation to drive the world forward. Built on Lucid’s proprietary technology and software-defined vehicle architecture, our award-winning vehicles bring our “Compromise Nothing™” approach to the global automotive market. That means refusing to choose between performance and sustainability, design and engineering, ambition and integrity. In Lucid Air and Lucid Gravity, we have designed and built vehicles that have redefined their segments, combining exceptional range, performance, design, and expansive space in a single experience.
We achieve this through deep vertical integration, with design, engineering, and production happening in-house across our global offices and manufacturing facilities. Our teams come from industries around the world, united by a shared commitment to excellence. By refusing to settle, you can help redefine what’s possible and shape the future of mobility.
About the Team
The Field Quality Engineering team connects real-world vehicle performance to engineering action across Lucid’s vehicle portfolio. The team investigates complex customer concerns, identifies systemic risks, and drives corrective and preventive actions that improve reliability, safety, serviceability, and customer experience. What makes this team unique is its vehicle-level perspective: it works across hardware, software, manufacturing, service, supplier quality, and product engineering to resolve issues that do not fit cleanly within one subsystem. The team operates with technical rigor, urgency, and accountability, using objective data to turn field learning into stronger products and processes.
About the Role
As a Staff Field Quality Engineer, Vehicle, you will serve as a senior individual contributor within the Field Quality Engineering organization and report to the Field Quality Engineering leader. This role exists to lead investigation and resolution of the most complex vehicle-level issues, especially when the responsible system, failure mode, or corrective path is unclear. You will own high-priority, cross-functional investigations from technical triage through root cause, corrective action, validation, and verified closure.
In the first 12 months, success will be measured by your ability to reduce investigation cycle time, resolve high-risk vehicle concerns, prevent repeat failures, and raise the technical standard for Field Quality investigations across commodities. This role offers direct influence on vehicle architecture, diagnostics, service strategy, validation plans, and future product improvements through decisions grounded in field data. A strong candidate will gain broad vehicle-level ownership at the intersection of customer experience, engineering decision-making, and product reliability.
What You Own
- Vehicle-Level Authority: Lead technical decision-making for complex customer concerns that cross vehicle systems, have unclear ownership, or require expertise beyond a single commodity.
- Root Cause Governance: Define investigation strategy, evidence standards, and root cause criteria to ensure conclusions are reproducible, data-supported, and actionable.
- Corrective Action Strategy: Direct permanent corrective and preventive actions across product design, software, calibration, manufacturing, suppliers, diagnostics, and service procedures.
- Fleet Risk Assessment: Quantify affected populations, severity, recurrence risk, warranty exposure, and customer impact to prioritize escalations and guide business decisions.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Reliability, Service, Diagnostics, Warranty Engineering, and Field Operations to drive accountable issue resolution.
- Validation Standards: Establish objective validation plans, acceptance criteria, sample requirements, monitoring periods, and post-implementation checks to confirm corrective action effectiveness.
- Technical Mentorship: Mentor Field Quality Engineers in diagnostics, systems thinking, failure analysis, statistical problem-solving, and clear technical communication.
What You Bring
- 10 years of experience in automotive field quality, vehicle integration, systems engineering, product engineering, reliability, vehicle diagnostics, validation, manufacturing quality, or a related technical discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience investigating and resolving complex customer-facing vehicle issues across multiple systems or commodities.
- Experience analyzing vehicle data such as diagnostic trouble codes, CAN data, telematics, vehicle logs, software traces, service records, warranty claims, test results, or returned components.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position, including understanding work instructions, safety procedures, and job-related communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with premium, high-performance, or high-volume battery-electric vehicles.
- Experience serving as a vehicle integration engineer, systems engineer, technical specialist, technical lead, or senior field quality authority.
- Working knowledge of hardware-software interactions, network communication, vehicle state management, fault handling, degraded operating modes, and over-the-air software updates.
- Familiarity with CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, UDS, DTC analysis, data logging, software trace evaluation, and automotive diagnostic tools.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, system FMEA, PFMEA, SPC, control plans, engineering change management, automotive product launch, ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, or Automotive SPICE.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and Walking: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in engineering, service, manufacturing, or vehicle evaluation environments.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands for handling tools, components, diagnostic equipment, and computer-based analysis tools.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Reaching and Bending: Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, and access vehicle areas during inspections, testing, and troubleshooting.
- PPE Expectations: Must wear required PPE, including safety shoes, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and other equipment required by company safety standards.
