About this role

At HelloFresh, the goal is to change the way people eat forever by delivering high-quality food across 18 countries and 3 continents. As a global food solutions group and the world's leading meal kit provider, the portfolio includes HelloFresh, Green Chef, EveryPlate, Chefs Plate, Factor_, and Youfoodz.

Engaging with HelloFresh in Warsaw means collaborating with HelloTech - a global technology division of over 1,000 people powering an end-to-end food ecosystem. From digital personalization and forecasting to supply chain optimization and food waste reduction, technology drives every step of this direct-to-consumer model.

About the Role: What's in the Box

HelloTech operates in autonomous, cross-functional alliances, each holding accountability for a specific product domain end to end. The service provider will join an assigned squad, with the flexibility to transition between teams and projects as technical objectives and business priorities evolve.

Several technical domains are actively engaging providers. Projects will be aligned based on individual strengths and expertise during the process. Key technical domains include:

  • Marketing Customer Profile squad: Builds AI-powered backend systems that automate campaign execution end-to-end, from content generation and validation to multi-channel delivery across email, SMS, and push.
  • Conversions Tribe: supporting the "Reachable Audience" and Personalization initiatives. The mission is to build the systems that power customized user journeys at scale.

Across all domains, the technical profile consists of highly available, event-driven distributed systems serving global architectures. This role does not include people management responsibilities.

What You’ll Do: The Recipe

At HelloFresh we are moving away from a model where software developers just execute tickets toward one where product engineers are trusted to own customer problems. A Product Engineer takes a problem, forms a point of view, validates it with customers and data, and ships it using AI as a force multiplier.

  • Take the technical lead on backend-heavy product problems, designing, building and operating the services and systems needed to deliver them reliably at scale under a full DevOps model..
  • Build event-driven systems utilizing messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS/SNS, and expose data via clean REST and gRPC interfaces.
  • Work extensively with Docker, container orchestration via Kubernetes, and CI/CD automated deployment pipelines.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to testing, executing robust test suites stretching from unit tests through to full end-to-end coverage.
  • Collaborate closely within cross-functional agile teams including product leads, frontend engineers, designers, and data teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to surrounding team members, actively participating in code and architecture reviews.
  • Leverage modern AI tools and workflows (e.g., Claude, Cursor) as a standardized component of engineering delivery to increase productivity.
  • Work beyond your specialization when the problem demands it. Your specialization is your anchor, not your boundary.
  • Operate what you build. You instrument, monitor, and improve your systems in production. Shipping is the beginning of the learning cycle, not the end.

What You’ll Bring: The Ingredients

  • Hands-on experience working with AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) beyond casual experimentation. You use AI agents every day. You have a practical sense of how the context you provide to AI tools shapes output quality, and how to set boundaries on AI-generated work.
  • Strong fluency in Go or Python and hands on experience building distributed systems in production: event-driven and asynchronous flows, clear service contracts, and designing for partial failure. High proficiency in one stack is required, with a willingness to expand technical knowledge into Go. You operate what you build, including its observability and data layer.
  • Solid experience building, deploying, and operating critical backend services in a production environment.
  • Technical comfort navigating distributed systems, messaging queues, containerization, and modern deployment infrastructure.
  • Strong software engineering instincts, including practical application of design methodologies like TDD, BDD, or DDD, and the ability to make sensible technical trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication capabilities to operate effectively inside an international, multi-disciplinary technical environment.
  • You take full ownership. You have a bias to ship. You finish the last twenty percent.
  • You have product sense and are opinionated about what should be built and why, and you can back that opinion with data and user evidence.

What We Offer: The Toppings

  • Global collaboration at scale: Collaborate with experienced engineers and product partners across HelloTech’s international teams, in a culture of active knowledge sharing.
  • Technology with real-world impact: Build and operate modern systems at global scale, supporting millions of customers and complex supply chain operations.
  • Technical/Product/Design leadership: Drive best practices and influence architecture/design, quality, and ways of working in an autonomous, product-led setup.
  • End-to-end development/delivery: Drive decisions from problem definition to production, improving systems and enabling long-term scalability.
  • Access to workspace at Warsaw centre: The hub offers modern facilities including showers, breakout zones, outdoor space, cycle parking, and refreshments (coffee, soft drinks, and fruit).
