About this role
Gritt is an intelligent system that combines robotics and AI to build the infrastructure that pulls society forward. Gritt deploys via simple attachments to common equipment found on construction sites and autonomously performs labor-intensive tasks, verification, and planning. Gritt systems are already building critical infrastructure in the harshest outdoor environments, starting with large-scale solar. The founding team includes experts in robotics and AI from Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, and MIT. Gritt is backed by Obvious Ventures, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Climactic, Congruent Ventures, and other leading firms.
We're looking for a full-time Assembly Technician to build, fit, and finish the mechanical hardware that goes into Gritt's field robots. This is a hands-on role for someone who's comfortable with welding, drilling, angle grinders, and general mechanical assembly, and who takes pride in precise, repeatable work. We need someone dependable who can read a drawing, fabricate or fit a part correctly, and keep pace with a fast-moving hardware team. This role is full-time on-site, and is a strong fit for someone who wants to get involved with one of the most exciting robotics companies pushing the boundaries of outdoor, real-world autonomy.
THE ROLE
What You'll Do
Assemble mechanical subsystems and full robot builds from drawings, BOMs, and work instructions
Weld, drill, grind, and fit metal and composite parts to spec, including deburring and finish work
Fabricate brackets, fixtures, and small custom parts as needed to support builds and repairs
Torque, fasten, and align components to tolerance, and verify fit before final assembly
Troubleshoot mechanical fit issues and flag design or part problems back to engineering
Maintain and safely operate shop tools and equipment - drill presses, angle grinders, welders, hand and power tools
Keep build stations organized and hardware properly staged and labeled
Support field or bench testing by building and rebuilding mechanical assemblies quickly
What We're Looking For
Hands-on experience with welding, drilling, angle grinders, and general mechanical assembly
Comfortable reading mechanical drawings and following BOMs and assembly instructions
High attention to detail and a strong sense of fit, finish, and tolerance
Comfortable in a hands-on, industrial, hardware-heavy environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, etc.
Reliable, proactive, and self-directed
A "no task is beneath me" mindset - at Gritt, founders take out the trash, and we expect everyone to pitch in wherever it's needed
A plus (or aptitude to learn)
Formal welding certification or trade school training
Background in machining, fabrication, or automotive/heavy equipment mechanical work
Experience building or repairing robots, vehicles, or other complex mechanical systems
WHY GRITT
You'll work alongside a team building robotics for the real world, in one of the most ambitious physical-AI companies in the field. The hardware you assemble is what makes the next generation of construction robotics possible - and your work makes that happen.
