About this role

About Us

What if your work could drive change in a globally established industry, shaping processes that touch every corner of the world? At Forto, we are at the forefront of change, harnessing the power of AI to revolutionise logistics. We want to reinvent digital supply chains to be transparent, frictionless and sustainable. From day one, our mission has been to simplify global trade - creating a seamless and efficient logistics process.

Your role & Mission

As a Senior Frontend Engineer in our Shipment team, you build and evolve the interfaces our Operations teams and customers use every day to move freight around the world. This includes building the agentic layer interfaces that serve as a bridge between Agents and Humans in the new agent-driven logistics world.

You join a Front End squad of three engineers and a squad lead, owning critical screens in our transport management system (TMS) and SHIP: tracking, carrier and partner bookings, carbon emissions and integrations with external data providers.

Frontend is your craft, but not your boundary. The best interfaces in logistics come from engineers who understand the workflow behind every screen, the data and APIs that feed it, and the business problem it solves. With our upcoming AI agent initiative, you will help shape a new generation of rich, agent-driven user experiences, working closely with Product, Design, backend engineers and Operations.

What you will do

  • Own the frontend architecture of your squad's applications: component structure, state management, data fetching and how they evolve as the product grows

  • Build fast, accessible and reliable interfaces for complex, data-heavy logistics workflows used by Operations teams every day

  • Help design and build rich UIs for our AI agents, shaping how people review, guide and trust what agents do

  • Look beyond the screen: shape API contracts with backend engineers, contribute to backend or BFF code when it gets the job done, and understand how data flows through our services

  • Spend time with Operations and Product to understand the real workflow behind a feature, and challenge requirements when there is a simpler way

  • Lead initiatives from discovery to production: break work into small parallel pieces, coordinate across teams and deliver in increments

  • Write clear technical documents (ADRs, RFCs, initiative write-ups) that explain your reasoning and let others act on it

  • Raise the team's standards for UI quality, testing, monitoring and performance, including frontend observability and on-call

  • Use AI tools to improve the speed, scope and quality of your work, while staying fully accountable for the result

Required Skills and Experience

  • A track record of building and owning production web applications from start to finish, not just implementing tickets

  • Deep expertise in TypeScript and React, including component design, state management, performance and testing (unit, integration and end-to-end)

  • A product and systems mindset: you think about the workflow, the data and the business outcome, not only the UI

  • Working knowledge of the backend side: API design and how services, events and databases fit together

  • Care for accessibility, usability and design quality, and experience working closely with designers

  • Experience writing technical documents that influenced a decision

  • Good judgment on trade-offs: simple over clever, reuse over building new, iterate rather than ship everything at once

  • Practical experience using AI tools in your engineering work, with a critical eye on quality and security

  • Clear communication in English and a habit of making the people around you better

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on backend experience with Node.js, for example building APIs or a backend-for-frontend

  • Experience with some of our wider stack: MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Kubernetes and event-driven microservices. We care more about how you learn than about a checklist

  • Experience in logistics, supply chain or B2B operations products

  • Experience building AI-powered or agent-driven user experiences

  • Experience building or contributing to a design system or shared component library

  • Experience with frontend observability and performance monitoring, for example in Datadog
