About the role

We are looking for a Shift Lead who will play a crucial role in the safe and efficient operation of our autonomous vehicle (AV) testing fleet in Tokyo. As a bridge between our engineering teams and the contractors who run day-to-day operations, you will make sure that what engineering needs gets executed on the ground. With our fleet expected to double in the next few months, you will also help scale the operation. We move fast and we focus on excellence, for our products and for our business. If you are hands-on and looking for a place to have a multiplying effect on bringing autonomous vehicles to the road, Applied is the place for you!

At Applied Intuition, you will:

  • Plan and manage daily shifts, including attendance tracking, coverage, vehicle assignments, and route execution built around testing priorities

  • Lead and support operators during your shift, ensuring work is carried out safely, on plan, and to our production and safety standards

  • Serve as the first point of escalation for vehicle faults, on-road incidents, and real-time blockers, and coordinate with engineering teams to resolve them

  • Oversee vehicle health, inspections, and uptime, as well as logistics such as route planning and equipment transport

  • Monitor deployment execution against testing metrics and summarize outcomes for shift handoffs and for regulatory and compliance needs

  • Run daily standups and team meetings, set direction for the shift, and mentor operators and mapping specialists

  • Over time, grow into running remote assistance for the fleet as our operations mature

We're looking for someone who has:

  • 2+ years of experience in operations, fleet management, logistics, transportation, or a similar shift-based environment

  • Hands-on experience with shift scheduling and coverage planning, in any industry

  • Fluency in both Japanese and English

  • Excellent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills under pressure, with a strong safety mindset

  • Strong communication and coordination abilities, with experience working across engineering and operations teams

  • Willingness to work on-site on a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule, covering day (9:00-18:00) or night (20:00-5:00) shifts

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience or strong interest in autonomous vehicles, ADAS, or vehicle testing

  • Previous experience with fleet management tools, vehicle inspection, or maintenance coordination

  • Previous experience leading or mentoring a team without formal reporting lines

  • Previous experience with incident reporting, safety, or regulatory compliance documentation

  • Previous experience supporting remote operations or monitoring
