About this role

About Airwallex

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 676,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles to see it in full.

What you’ll do

  • Reporting directly to the CFO, you will shape the future of Airwallex’s Finance team. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of strategy, technology, and execution.

  • You will define and deliver the future of Airwallex’s global Finance function. Acting as the architect of the Finance systems landscape, you will diagnose gaps today, design the target state and build the solutions that get us there.

  • You can see how processes, data, and platforms fit together; you can weigh build-versus-buy choices; and you can align stakeholders around a clear transformation journey.

Responsibilities

  • Embed deeply with the global Finance teams, understanding their needs to identify the highest impact use cases

  • Define and own the end-to-end AI transformation roadmap for Finance

  • Own technical delivery from prototype to production

  • Codify working patterns into building blocks that others can use

  • Lead change management and upskilling initiatives to enable adoption of new tools

  • Track, measure and communicate the outcomes of your work, ensuring accountability

Who you are

We are looking for high-agency Builders. There are no layers of middle management or rigid ticketing queues here. You will hold complete end-to-end technical and product ownership - wearing the hat of a Product Manager to define the what and the why, and acting as a lead engineer to build the how.

Minimum qualifications

  • 5+ years of software or forward deployed engineering experience

  • Strong Product Sense: You look at engineering through a commercial lens. You care about user experience, business impact, and why a product is being built, not just the code itself.

  • Comfort with Ambiguity: You enjoy working in spaces where requirements aren't fully defined yet, and you can independently map out technical specs from high-level direction.

  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: You are resourceful, self-directed, and focused on delivering outcomes, finding efficient ways to work through technical or institutional blockers.

  • Clear Communication: Ability to discuss deep technical trade-offs with core infrastructure teams and present clear, simplified product outcomes to executive stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong academic credentials from a top-tier university.

  • Experience in top-tier management consulting, systems integration, or digital transformation leadership roles

  • Hands-on experience with finance systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, Netsuite) and automation/AI tools (e.g. ML-based reconciliation, workflow platforms)

  • Familiarity with data architecture, analytics, and business intelligence to support decision-making and measure impact

  • Experience building software that leverages Generative AI, LLMs, or automated agent workflows.

  • Experience in fintech, payments, multi-currency ledgering, or regulated financial systems.

  • Prior experience as a founder, founding engineer or early employee
