About this role

About Abridge

Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI-powered platform was purpose-built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most - their patients.

Our enterprise-grade technology transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time, with deep EMR integrations. Powered by Linked Evidence and our purpose-built, auditable AI, we are the only company that maps AI-generated summaries to ground truth, helping providers quickly trust and verify the output. As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we are setting the industry standards for the responsible deployment of AI across health systems.

We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care make more sense. We have offices located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh.

The Role

Abridge is at the leading edge of AI in healthcare, and our Physical Security & Life Safety program is built to match. We’re looking for an experienced Manager, Physical Security & Life Safety to own day-to-day operations at our San Francisco office and take an established program to the next level. You’ll lead our contract security team, run our employee safety programs, and be the person our people trust to keep them safe at work and on the way there.

This position requires deep expertise in physical security, a proactive mindset for implementing safeguards, and excellent communication skills to influence security protocols across the organization. This is an opportunity to mature and scale a program that is already delivering results. You will thrive here if you are passionate about building and securing facilities that effectively blend security requirements with the employee experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Owning physical security operations for our San Francisco Office, including access control, visitor management, surveillance systems (CCTV), alarm monitoring, and key management

  • Managing the contract security guard force, including staffing schedules, post orders, patrol routes, escort services, performance management, training standards, and ensuring consistent service delivery aligned with Abridge's standards and culture

  • Developing and maintaining the office's life safety program, including fire safety plans, emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, shelter-in-place protocols, and AED/first aid readiness

  • Leading incident response for all physical security and life safety events at the office, conducting investigations, writing after-action reports, and driving corrective actions

  • Conducting regular risk assessments and security audits of the facility, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending improvements to physical security posture, technology, and procedures

  • Collaborating with Facilities, IT, and People teams on office buildouts, access control integrations, new hire/offboarding security procedures, and workplace safety initiatives

  • Managing security technology systems including access control platforms, video management systems, intrusion detection, and intercoms, owning vendor performance, standards, maintenance, and upgrades

  • Running employee safety programs, including in-person escorts, commute and neighborhood risk management, and employee safety monitoring.

  • Monitoring the local threat environment, including protests, demonstrations, and activism targeting the AI industry, and communicating timely guidance to employees.

  • Creating and delivering security awareness training for employees, covering topics such as workplace safety, visitor protocols, emergency procedures, and threat awareness

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of experience in physical security, corporate security, or related fields, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or site-lead capacity

  • Hands-on experience managing a contract security guard force, including staffing, scheduling, post orders, training, and performance accountability

  • Strong vendor and contractor management skills, with experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating contracts, and holding partners to consistent service standards

  • Experience developing or managing life safety programs, including fire and evacuation plans, emergency action plans, and conducting drills

  • Comfort leading incident response for physical security events in an urban environment, including de-escalation, documentation, and coordination with law enforcement when needed

  • Working knowledge of security technology systems such as access control (e.g., Verkada, Genetec, Brivo, Lenel), video management/CCTV, intrusion detection, and visitor management platforms

  • Familiarity with local and federal safety regulations including OSHA, fire codes, and building safety standards

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization - from front desk staff to executive leadership

  • Highly organized and self-directed, able to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

  • Sound judgment and calm under pressure, with the ability to make critical decisions during security incidents or emergencies

Bonus Points If…

  • Professional certification such as CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or PSP (Physical Security Professional)

  • Experience working in a high-growth tech or healthcare company where the security program evolved alongside the business

  • Familiarity with workplace violence prevention programs and threat assessment methodologies

  • Background in emergency management (CPR/AED certification, CERT training, or equivalent)

  • Exposure to in house executive protection programs

  • Active participation in the Physical Security community and/or professional organizations
