About this role

At SumUp, we believe small merchants are the heartbeat of our communities. By joining the Lending tribe, you'll help launch a new financing product designed for the roughly 50 million registered and informal sole traders in Brazil who currently can't access affordable credit.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be the technical anchor of a brand new squad, operating with real autonomy. This is a role for someone who's energised by ambiguity, comfortable owning hard decisions without a playbook to follow, and excited to help shape a lending product from the ground up in a fast-moving, regulated market.

What you'll do

  • Build the onboarding journey: Design and build the onboarding experience for non SumUp customers, including KYC and Open Finance account and income data integration
  • Own the repayment integration: Lead the technical relationship with our Open Finance partner alongside the Bank squad
  • Deliver the product end to end: Build the core lending product experience, from credit assessment through to servicing and collections
  • Power the credit decisioning: Connect Open Finance data to underwriting models to support fast, reliable credit decisions
  • Set the technical direction: Make high impact architecture calls with minimal guidance, and coach mid level and entry level engineers
  • Navigate the regulatory landscape: Partner closely with the Bank squad, Compliance, and our Open Finance external integration partner on Open Finance requirements in Brazil

What makes you a great fit

  • Have experience designing and owning complex distributed systems end to end, ideally backed by around 6 years in software engineering
  • Have strong knowledge of Open Finance or Open Banking integrations, gained from working inside a bank, fintech, or another regulated financial product
  • Feel comfortable working in Golang on backend systems, with the flexibility to work confidently in another language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Ruby
  • Can identify gaps and ambiguity early, weigh up tradeoffs, and drive decisions without waiting for perfect information
  • Shares excitement about building a new product from scratch and exploring unfamiliar territory rather than maintaining something established
