About this role

Saronic Technologies is a leader in revolutionizing autonomy at sea, dedicated to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance maritime operations through autonomous and intelligent platforms.

Position Overview
Saronic is seeking an Instructional Designer to support the design, development, and continuous improvement of training content that enables safe, consistent, and mission-ready operation of our autonomous maritime systems. This role partners closely with subject matter experts across Mission Operations, Engineering, Programs, Manufacturing, and Support to translate complex technical and operational requirements into effective learning experiences delivered through digital, instructor-led, and blended formats.

You will own end-to-end content development - from training needs analysis and instructional strategy through storyboarding, development, implementation, and measurement - ensuring training products are accurate, scalable, and aligned with evolving system capabilities, SOPs, and operational realities. The Instructional Designer will also establish measurable proficiency standards, develop assessments that validate readiness, and help ensure training completion and reporting through the Learning Management System (LMS).

Responsibilities:

Instructional Design & Content Development

  • Design and develop engaging learning experiences for internal teams and external customers across technical, operational, and business domains.

  • Translate complex system capabilities, procedures, and workflows into clear instructional content including eLearning, job aids, assessments, and instructor-led materials.

  • Apply instructional design methodologies and learning principles to maximize learner engagement and retention.

  • Develop interactive learning activities, simulations, and scenario-based content aligned to real operational use cases.

Training Needs Analysis & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Conduct training needs analyses to identify skill gaps, define learning objectives, and recommend training solutions aligned with organizational priorities.

  • Collaborate with SMEs and functional leaders to ensure content accuracy, relevance, and alignment to current SOPs, and product and system capabilities.

  • Facilitate content reviews, manage feedback cycles, and maintain alignment across stakeholders for timely delivery.

Assessment, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Create measurable assessments and evaluation tools that validate proficiency, readiness, and training effectiveness.

  • Establish evaluation approaches (e.g., knowledge checks, practical assessments, performance metrics) and use results to refine training strategy and content.

  • Analyze learner feedback and performance data to identify improvement opportunities and recommend updates to training content, delivery methods, and learning pathways.

Training Operations Enablement

  • Maintain training documentation, version control, and course assets to support scalability, auditability, and repeatable delivery.

  • Serve as a resource to instructors, managers, learners, and stakeholders by sharing evolving learning technologies and best practices that promote consistent execution.

Delivery Support & Instructor Enablement

  • Support training sessions as needed, ensuring a consistent learner experience and alignment to learning objectives.

  • Develop facilitator guides, instructor standards, and enablement materials that support high-quality delivery across distributed teams.

Content Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure training content aligns with applicable compliance standards and internal documentation requirements.

  • Maintain clean versioning and traceability between training content, SOPs, and system updates.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, learning sciences, or related field required, Master’s preferred.

  • Proven experience designing and delivering training in technical environments (manufacturing, engineering, operations, defense, maritime, or similar preferred).

  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia or equivalent).

  • Experience designing and delivering instructor-led training (ILT) and blended learning programs.

  • Strong visual and digital design skills (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, HTML or similar).

  • Advanced knowledge of assessment design, evaluation methods, and data-driven learning improvement.

  • Strong project management, documentation, and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and timelines.

  • Experience administering training in an LMS; Cornerstone experience preferred.

  • Experience designing training for AR/VR formats preferred.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

  • Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally.
