The Role 🥳

The greatest engineers today aren't just writing code faster - they're spending more time solving problems and building products that couldn't have existed a year ago.

Our team works at the frontier of AI-native development where curiosity, product thinking, rapid experimentation and judgement are embedded in our ways of working.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be one of our core product builders and cross-team technical leader. You’ll set the technical direction behind our most advanced AI capabilities: agents that can act with increasing autonomy on real work. You'll raise the bar for AI engineering and reliability across teams, and take on the hardest, highest-leverage problems in the company, being deployed onto whatever is most critical at the time. This is the most senior IC seat in the company and a chance to define what AI-native engineering means here - and beyond.

You'll have access to the latest frontier models, rethink traditional software patterns and work closely with customer-facing teams to quickly turn ideas into shipped products.

We are willing to sponsor engineers relocating from overseas to Australia.

Your Impact 💥

• Set technical direction on load-bearing decisions for frontier AI products; unblocking teams and raising the standard of design and review.

• Deploy onto our hardest problems, ship in days what takes traditional teams months.

• Raise the bar on AI-native engineering practices; defining the agentic workflows, context engineering, and eval discipline for all of engineering to adopt.

• Own the challenging parts of making autonomous agents trustworthy in production; turn incident patterns into systemic improvements.

• Partner closely with product, design and customer teams to decide what we build, kill low-value work and ship outcomes that truly move the needle.

• Interview, mentor and level up other engineers to multiply their impact.

You'll likely thrive here if you demonstrate:

• AI-Native Building: You operate at the frontier of what is possible with coding agents - using AI in novel ways to decompose problems, orchestrate build-run loops, and implement systemic improvements to keep evaluation and review quality high.

• Product Thinking & Judgement: You think like a product owner and care deeply about the right thing being built to meet customer outcomes, not tickets. You can talk about who used your product and why it mattered.

• Deep Engineering Craft. You bring technical depth and strong judgement, particularly in backend, APIs, distributed systems and making load-bearing decisions.

• Cross-Team Leverage. You’ve improved teams beyond your own; unblocking others and setting standards that other people have adopted.

• Delivery speed and reliability. You ship continuously, balancing pace with quality - and you take evals, on-call, and root-cause fixes seriously.

• Belief in our mission. You raise the standard for people around you, you're comfortable with ambiguity and pace, and you believe a smaller AI-native team can out-build a larger, traditional one.
