Walmart's 30-Day Door #3: Sourcing 1,000 Hoboken and Reston PMs

Walmart's 30-Day Door #3: Sourcing 1,000 Hoboken and Reston PMs

On May 12, 2026, Walmart's global CTO Suresh Kumar and EVP of AI acceleration Daniel Danker sent a memo telling roughly 1,000 corporate product, design, and digital technology workers in Hoboken and Reston to either relocate to Bentonville or Northern California, or wind down by mid-year with severance. Employees have 30 days to decide. That window, not the headline cut number, is the sourcing event.

A relocation ultimatum is not a layoff. These people still have badges, still have RSU vest dates, still have 1:1s on the calendar. They will not appear on Layoffs.fyi. They will not flood LinkedIn with #OpenToWork banners on day one. They are, however, sitting in a kitchen in Jersey City or Vienna, VA, doing math on schools, mortgages, and a spouse's job, and concluding that door #3 (a new employer who lets them stay) is the only sane option.

If you move in the next three weeks, you are competing with their internal mobility team, not with every recruiter on the platform.

What actually happened, in one paragraph

Walmart spent the last year merging three separate technology operations into one global platform. The memo, viewed by the Wall Street Journal, said plainly: "In some cases, we've had different teams working on similar problems." Affected staff in Hoboken (the old Jet.com HQ at 221 River St.) and Reston, VA can apply for open internal roles, take a relocation package to Bentonville or the Bay Area, or leave with severance by mid-year. Across WARN filings dating back to February 2025, Walmart has already flagged 668 positions at the Hoboken office alone, and total 2026 corporate roles affected now sit around 1,100.
