About this role
Company Overview
At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects.
Position Overview
We’re building the command layer for a new generation of intelligent robots.
As our first UX/UI design hire, you will define how humans command, deploy, and collaborate with autonomous systems in the physical world. You will own the experience for fleet command of distributed, sensor-equipped robotic systems operating in real environments. This is mission-critical software that enables non-experts to operate intelligent machines, not a fleet dashboard with status icons. Customers will rely on what you design to monitor, deploy, coordinate, and intervene across their robot installations.
Beyond fleet command, you will architect a radically simplified deployment experience: a true “unbox, power on, connect, deploy” journey via app or tablet. Our ambition is to eliminate heavy pilots and prolonged engagements by making robot activation intuitive, guided, and production-ready from day one.
This is a zero-to-one role with expanding scope. You will set the design standard for the company and establish deployment and command UX as a strategic advantage for Skild AI.
Responsibilities
- Own UX/UI from concept through production.
- Translate complex robotics and AI capabilities into simplified, controllable systems.
- Design production workflows for distributed, moving, sensor-equipped assets.
- Lead customer interviews, usability studies, and rapidly prototyping.
- Raise the design craft, rigor, and systems-thinking bar across the applied AI team.
- End-to-end UX for fleet monitoring and control
- AI-assisted control surfaces (configure, automate, supervise, escalate)
- Self-service onboarding and training workflows
- Real-time telemetry and multimodal sensor visualization (camera + beyond)
- Alerting, incident response, and system health management
- Task orchestration and multi-robot coordination
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years designing exceptional consumer hardware experiences and/or complex B2B operational systems.
- Proven experience building production workflows for distributed systems or moving assets.
- Strong background in data-heavy, real-time operational tools.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and multi-state workflows.
- Experience designing interfaces integrating multimodal data.
- Demonstrated systems thinking and high design craft.
- Comfort leading customer research and translating insight into product decisions.
Bonus
- Robotics, autonomous systems, security, or industrial experience.
- Experience designing control system consoles.
- Experience simplifying complex hardware setup flows.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted configuration and automation interfaces.
Base Salary Range$100,000-$300,000 USD
