About this role

As Director of Platform Engineering at SingleStore, you will lead the teams and technologies that power the company’s internal engineering platforms, infrastructure services, and developer experience. You will be responsible for building and operating the systems that enable engineers to develop, test, secure, deploy, and operate software reliably at scale.

This role owns critical platform domains including CI/CD infrastructure, release engineering, developer productivity tooling, infrastructure automation, identity and access management, networking infrastructure, observability, and internal cloud platforms. You will drive operational excellence across multi-cloud environments while improving reliability, scalability, security, and engineering velocity across the organization.

You will own the strategy, standardization, and operational maturity of SingleStore’s internal multi-cloud infrastructure services environment. This includes driving consistency, automation, scalability, and operational best practices across cloud service providers while ensuring critical engineering systems remain secure, reliable, and operationally efficient.

You will partner closely with Engineering, Security, IT, and Product leadership to modernize platform capabilities, standardize engineering workflows, and scale the infrastructure that supports SingleStore’s cloud and database engineering teams.

By combining deep expertise in platform engineering, infrastructure operations, multi-cloud architecture, networking, IAM, and developer systems, you will shape how engineering teams build, deploy, and operate software across the company. In addition, you will champion AI- and automation-driven approaches to modernize infrastructure operations, release pipelines, and developer tooling.

The ideal candidate is a deeply technical engineering leader with experience building and operating large-scale platform and infrastructure systems. You are equally comfortable driving long-term platform strategy, mentoring engineering teams, and engaging directly with architecture, operational challenges, and infrastructure modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

Platform Engineering Leadership - Lead the Platform Engineering organization responsible for developer infrastructure, CI/CD systems, release engineering, internal cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, and engineering productivity tooling.

Infrastructure & Core Services Ownership - Own and operate core infrastructure services including identity and access management (Keycloak, FreeIPA), VPN and secure remote access systems, NetBox/IPAM, internal DNS, and cloud networking infrastructure.

Developer Platforms & CI/CD - Drive the evolution of scalable developer platforms and CI/CD systems that improve engineering velocity, build reliability, deployment safety, and operational consistency across distributed teams.

Infrastructure Automation - Champion infrastructure-as-code, automation frameworks, and AI-assisted operational tooling to reduce operational overhead and improve platform scalability and reliability.

Reliability & Operational Excellence - Establish best practices for observability, incident response, capacity planning, security, platform reliability, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

Cross-Functional Engineering Leadership - Partner with Engineering, Security, SRE, and IT leadership to align platform capabilities with organizational priorities and deliver scalable engineering infrastructure solutions.

Team Leadership & Mentorship - Build, mentor, and grow high-performing platform and infrastructure engineering teams while fostering a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Platform Roadmap - Define and execute the long-term roadmap for internal engineering platforms, infrastructure modernization, developer experience, and operational tooling.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related technical disciplines, including 5+ years leading engineering or infrastructure organizations.
  • Proven experience designing, operating, and scaling internal engineering platforms and infrastructure services in complex multi-cloud environments.
  • Strong technical expertise across:
    • Multi-cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
    • CI/CD and release engineering systems
    • Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar)
    • Linux systems administration and networking
    • Observability, monitoring, and operational tooling
    • Identity and access management systems
  • Experience building standardized and automated infrastructure platforms across multiple cloud service providers, including establishing consistent operational patterns, tooling, security controls, and deployment workflows.
  • Hands-on operational experience managing and scaling critical infrastructure services including:
  • Keycloak
  • FreeIPA
  • VPN and secure remote access infrastructure
  • NetBox/IPAM
  • DNS, PKI, and internal networking systems
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure lifecycle management, operational processes, system reliability, and engineering scalability.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and mature operational processes that improve reliability, security, scalability, and engineering efficiency across distributed environments.
  • Proven ability to remain technically engaged while leading teams, driving architectural decisions, troubleshooting complex infrastructure challenges, and mentoring engineers.
  • Strong process orientation with experience building repeatable, scalable operational frameworks and engineering standards.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align infrastructure strategy with engineering and business priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading Platform Engineering or Internal Developer Platform organizations in high-growth cloud-native or infrastructure-focused companies.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar cloud-native infrastructure tooling.
  • Familiarity with SRE practices including SLIs/SLOs, incident management, and production operations.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted automation in infrastructure operations, developer tooling, or CI/CD systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, or scripting languages used for infrastructure automation and operational tooling.
  • Experience managing globally distributed infrastructure and engineering teams.
  • Cloud architecture or infrastructure certifications (AWS/GCP/Azure).

About SingleStore

The core of all AI, business intelligence and applications is data - various bits and bytes that come in all different formats. Only when we sift through this data, reason with it and build on top of it in real time does it give way to vast amounts of information and knowledge. Real-time insights are key to the way we live our lives today; the way we entertain ourselves; the way we listen to music; the way we order groceries. Real-time insights keep your BI tools fresh; they keep your ride-sharing app with the most current price; and they ensure you never miss a fraudulent payment. SingleStoreDB is the world’s only database that empowers users to transact, analyze and search data in real time. It empowers the world’s makers to build, deploy and scale modern, intelligent applications - backed by streaming data ingestion, a unique table type that supports both transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) workloads, limitless point-in-time recovery and a distributed (shared-nothing), MySQL-compatible architecture.
