Role Summary:

Product work at Prefect currently lives inside our engineering organization and engineers carry real product ownership. As we grow, co-ordination across products becomes more important and we are looking for a Director of Product to manage product responsibilities across our portfolio.

You will be our most senior dedicated product person, responsible for how the portfolio hangs together. You won't inherit a product org and instead will arrive as a team of one inside an engineering-led company.

This role will report to our Head of Engineering, Jenny.

What You'll Do:

• Own product cohesion across the portfolio - how Dagster, Prefect, and FastMCP fit together, where they overlap, where they deliberately don't, and where the whole is going.

• Build our product discovery practice - user conversations, customer signal, and problem validation. You don't run every conversation yourself but you set the standard for how discovery gets done, facilitate it across surfaces, and coach engineers to run their own user conversations well. You'll be a key partner to engineers in framing problems and help ground what we choose to build in customer evidence.

• Coach the product side of our product engineers - our model asks engineers to carry real product judgment, and you raise that bar across the org helping engineers to frame problems, weigh evidence, talk to users, and decide what not to build.

• Design and own the system for measuring the success of what we ship. This includes defining what "it worked" means and the practice of validating after launch. You make sure that post launch validation happens and happens honestly. And that what we learn feeds back into what we build next.

Your Qualifications:

• 10+ years in product, with real product management experience at the leadership level - you've owned multi-team roadmaps, driven tough prioritization decisions and shipped through others without direct authority over them.

• You've operated in start-ups and engineering-led orgs. You know how to carry product weight through influence, without a PM org or a reporting line over the people building.

• You synthesize across domains. Multi-product portfolios, platform/product tension, or post-acquisition integration experience is a strong signal.

• Deep familiarity with the modern data stack, orchestration, or developer tools. Bonus for hands-on experience with agentic systems or MCP.

• You've made other people better at product.

What You'll Get in Return

Base Salary Ranges:

• San Francisco Bay Area & NYC Metro: $221,000 - $276,000

• Washington D.C., Boston, LA Metro, Seattle: $200,000 - $257,000

• Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, & all other U.S. metros: $191,000 - $238,000

Actual base salary within each range depends on the candidate's location, experience, and qualifications. Please keep in mind that equity and benefits are not included in the range provided above.
