About this role
Are you ready to shape the future of data?
Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform.
In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster.
We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India.
We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.
About the Role
We're looking for a Director of Engineering Productivity & Operations to lead how our engineering organisation builds, delivers and operates the Maia platform. You'll own the strategy and execution behind our engineering productivity agenda, including the evolution of our software development lifecycle towards an increasingly agentic model, alongside the operational disciplines that keep engineering efficient: metrics, reporting, cloud and tooling spend, and vendor management. Working closely with engineering leaders across the business and with Finance, you'll lead a team spanning developer experience, release engineering and CloudOps, and have real scope to shape the role and make it your own.
What you will be doing
Setting and leading the engineering productivity strategy, driving the move towards an agentic software delivery model across planning, coding, testing, review and deployment.
Owning the roadmap for shared engineering platforms and delivery capabilities, including CI/CD, release automation, observability and the developer experience.
Running the engineering operating rhythm and a trusted metrics framework, giving leadership clear visibility of delivery, quality, reliability and cost.
Leading engineering FinOps and cloud cost optimisation, working with your CloudOps analysts to build forecasting, accountability and sustainable savings.
Managing the engineering tooling portfolio end to end, including vendor evaluation, contract negotiation and renewals, in partnership with Finance, Procurement, Legal and Security.
What we are looking for
Significant engineering leadership experience in SaaS, cloud platform, DevOps, developer experience, SRE or engineering productivity organisations.
A practical understanding of AI-assisted and agentic software development, ideally having led a team that builds AI agents or tooling for engineers, or a genuine drive to learn it fast.
Experience running engineering operations, with a track record of measuring productivity through outcomes rather than activity.
Hands-on experience with cloud cost management, vendor and contract management, and technical procurement.
Excellent communication and sound commercial judgement, with the ability to influence engineering, finance and executive stakeholders.

About Matillion
In 2025, Matillion introduced Maia, the industry’s first AI Data Automation platform for building data products without limits. The core of Maia consists of tightly integrated components, each designed to support data teams as they move from maintenance to ownership. - Maia Team brings an always-on set of expert AI agents that handle the repetitive, time-consuming data work - building, modifying, optimizing, and maintaining pipelines as systems evolve - freeing teams to focus on higher-value outcomes without losing control. - Maia Context Engine captures business rules, standards, and institutional knowledge, ensuring data products remain transparent, reusable, and deterministic as they evolve. - Maia Foundation provides the enterprise backbone, with security, governance, observability, and scale built in from the start. This design ensures compliance with data regulations and maintains trust, so teams can move fast without compromising control or risking data security. Together, these components remove the constraints that slow data teams down.
