About this role

Product Design Director - Patient (x/f/m)

The opportunity

Doctolib is a mission-driven healthcare technology company, founded in Paris in 2013. Today, nearly 3,000 people work across Europe to transform the way healthcare is delivered and experienced.

More than 500,000 healthcare professionals use Doctolib’s solutions, and the patient app is used by approximately 90 million people across Europe.

For patients, Doctolib began as a simple way to find a healthcare professional and book an appointment. We are now building something much more ambitious: an AI-powered Health Companion that helps people navigate care, understand their health and take the right next step throughout their health journey.

This means moving beyond a primarily transactional product towards an experience that supports patients before, during and after care, through access to care, health information, patient data, messaging, recommendations, care plans and AI-powered assistance.

We are looking for a Product Design Director to help define what this next generation of patient experience should look and feel like.

What you will build and lead

As Product Design Director, Patient, you will own the design vision and quality bar for Doctolib’s patient experience. You will report to our VP Design and work closely with the Product, Engineering, Medical, Data and Business leadership teams.

Your scope will cover the full patient journey, including:

  • access to care, search and booking;
  • patient messaging and teleconsultation;
  • the Patient Health Record and patient context;
  • the app homepage and daily health experience;
  • health content and prevention;
  • recommendations, reminders and care plans;
  • new patient services and subscription experiences;
  • conversational and AI-powered experiences.

The current team includes six Senior Product Designers and one Senior Content Designer. You will lead, coach and develop this team while shaping the organisation and operating model needed to support the next phase of the Patient product.

Your mandate

You will:

  • Define and drive the design vision for the Patient stream, from a high-traffic booking experience to a trusted Health Companion used throughout the health journey.
  • Bridge two equally important challenges: continuing to improve the core access-to-care experience while creating new reasons for patients to return beyond booking.
  • Raise the quality bar for product design, interaction design and content across the patient experience.
  • Stay close enough to the product and the craft to make high-quality design decisions, not only set direction from a distance.
  • Shape AI-native experiences that are clear, useful and trustworthy, including recommendations, conversational interfaces and next-best actions.
  • Establish strong design principles for transparency, explainability, uncertainty, user control and safe escalation in a healthcare context.
  • Build a high-performing design organisation, including hiring, coaching, talent development and second-line leadership.
  • Create effective ways of working across Design, Product, Engineering, Medical, Data and Business.
  • Help scale a coherent experience across countries, languages and different healthcare contexts.
  • Connect design decisions to user behaviour, product outcomes and business impact.

What success looks like

In your first year, you will have:

  • established a clear and compelling design vision for the Patient stream;
  • raised the quality bar across both core access-to-care journeys and newer Health Companion experiences;
  • helped define a coherent interaction model for AI-powered patient experiences;
  • strengthened collaboration between Design, Product, Engineering and Medical;
  • developed a clear operating model and growth plan for the Patient Design organisation;
  • helped Doctolib increase the value and relevance of the patient experience beyond appointment booking.

What we are looking for

You are likely to bring:

  • Significant experience leading Product Design, 10+ years in product design including 3+ years in people leadership..
  • Experience in a consumer product organisation, ideally one used by millions of people.
  • A track record of designing and scaling products across multiple markets, with an understanding of localisation, cultural differences and the balance between global consistency and local relevance.
  • Experience managing at least five Product Designers, ideally a larger organisation including senior individual contributors and managers.
  • Strong product design craft and creative judgement. You can recognise excellent work, make difficult quality trade-offs and stay close enough to the details to raise the standard of the product.
  • Experience connecting design choices to measurable outcomes such as adoption, conversion, engagement, retention, satisfaction or user behaviour.
  • A strong and practical understanding of AI-native product experiences. You have thought deeply about how AI changes interaction design, user expectations, trust, transparency and control.
  • Experience designing with uncertainty, recommendations, personalisation or conversational interfaces is highly relevant.
  • The ability to operate across complex products and stakeholders, while maintaining clarity and momentum.
  • A concise and compelling communication style. You can articulate a clear point of view, align senior stakeholders and inspire teams to move in a new direction.
  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated, trust-sensitive environment is valuable, but healthcare experience is not required. What matters is your respect for domain expertise and your ability to design responsibly in high-stakes contexts.
  • Fluency in English. French or German would be a strong plus.
  • A working style aligned with the Doctolib Playbook: User First, Medical Expertise, Forefront of Innovation, Bold, Drive, Passion, Humility.

Why Doctolib, why now?

Doctolib gives you the opportunity to work on a consumer product with significant reach, strong European scale and a mission that matters.

The patient product already has a large and engaged audience. The next challenge is to make the experience more useful, more contextual and more present in people’s everyday health journeys.

You will join at a defining moment:

  • Doctolib is moving from appointment booking towards continuous health support.
  • AI is becoming a core part of the product experience, not an isolated feature.
  • The Patient Design organisation is being strengthened and reshaped.
  • The product must work across multiple European countries, languages and healthcare systems.
  • The design foundations for the next chapter are still being built.

This is an opportunity to shape a new category at the intersection of consumer product design, healthcare and AI, and to define how people will discover, understand and manage their health in the future.

Doctolib is an equal opportunity employer. We believe diverse teams build better products and improve healthcare for more people.
