As a Payments Risk Analyst I on the Payments Risk team, you'll serve as the first line of defense against payments fraud across Coinbase. You'll own end-to-end fraud investigations, surface insights that sharpen our detection logic, and drive process improvements that reduce risk exposure at scale.

What you'll do:

  • Own detailed investigations of escalated customer accounts to identify and mitigate payments fraud risks, including chargebacks, ACH returns, wire disputes, and account takeovers.
  • Analyze fraud trends and patterns in payment activities, delivering actionable insights to Payments Risk leadership that improve detection accuracy.
  • Partner with the Payments Risk investigations team to provide feedback on rule performance and risk logic, strengthening our automated defenses.
  • Drive process improvements by identifying workflow inefficiencies and recommending changes that reduce risk exposure and increase operational throughput.
  • Support the development and documentation of review processes to scale operational efficiency as transaction volumes grow.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in payments risk, fraud analysis, or risk operations within financial services, fintech, or e-commerce, with demonstrated ownership of fraud case investigations.
  • Hands-on experience with payments systems (ACH, wire, card networks) and fraud detection methodologies, including chargeback management and dispute resolution workflows.
  • Proven investigative ability to identify fraud patterns, root causes, and systemic vulnerabilities from account-level data.
  • Familiarity with blockchain analytics tools or cryptocurrency fraud trends (or demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in technical domains).
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
