About this role

About Blitzy

Blitzy is a Cambridge, MA based AI software development platform on a mission to revolutionize the software development life cycle by autonomously building custom software to unlock the next industrial revolution. We're transforming how enterprises build software, turning enterprise requirements into production-ready code with an agentic software development platform that can autonomously execute 80% of the quantum of software development work. We're backed by multiple tier 1 investors, and have proven success as founders of previous start-ups.

Location: 1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA (In-person)

Compensation: $170,000 - $220,000 + bonus + equity, commensurate with experience

The Role

We're looking for a Chief of Staff to the CTO to serve as the strategic operating backbone of our Technology organization. You'll work directly with our CTO to drive clarity, execution, and accountability across engineering and the broader technology function. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and execution - translating vision into reality through structured thinking, data-driven decision-making, and relentless follow-through.

This is not a purely operational role. You'll need to be technically fluent enough to engage directly in architecture and product discussions, understand engineering tradeoffs, and act as a credible technical thought partner to the CTO and engineering leadership - in addition to running the strategic and operational cadence of the organization.

You'll own the CTO's operating rhythm, lead cross-functional strategic initiatives, and tackle the most complex, ambiguous problems that don't have clear owners. This isn't a traditional Chief of Staff role focused on calendar management, you'll be a strategic operator who builds systems, drives decisions and accelerates the CTO's impact as we scale from Series A toward Series B and beyond.

This role is ideal for someone with a systems and operations oriented background, and who also brings hands-on technical depth - whether from an engineering, computer science, or technical product background - to partner credibly with the CTO on technical strategy, thrive at creating structure, excel at communication, and navigate the controlled chaos of hypergrowth.

What Success Looks Like

  • You establish and run the CTO's operating rhythm including leadership meetings, quarterly planning, goal tracking, and cross-team alignment run like clockwork.

  • You create visibility into the business through dashboards and metrics that drive better, faster decisions.

  • You eliminate friction between teams, ensuring GTM and Engineering are coordinated with clear reporting and workstreams

  • You execute high-stakes strategic projects - market analysis, pricing strategy, investor materials, operational improvements - at both high quality and high speed

  • You multiply the CTO's effectiveness by managing cross-functional complexity and removing blockers

  • You make the technology organization more process oriented, data-driven, and scalable as we grow

  • You serve as a technical sounding board for the CTO - fluent enough in architecture, engineering tradeoffs, and technical roadmaps to translate them for the business and hold your own in technical conversations

  • You become the CTO's go-to person for "how do we actually get this done?" across the company

  • Build formal KPIs for the teams and proliferate positive work culture

Areas of Ownership

Strategic Operations & CTO Cadence

  • Design and run the CTO's operating rhythm: weekly exec meetings, quarterly business reviews, OKR planning cycles

  • Build dashboards and reporting frameworks that give the CTO real-time visibility into engineering and business performance

  • Identify process gaps, remove bottlenecks and operational inefficiencies, implementing improvements that drive clarity and speed

  • Own the CTO's project tracking and decision-making infrastructure

  • Oversee recruiting efforts and define roles and clear objectives

Technical Partnership & Engineering Fluency

  • Partner directly with engineering leads to understand system architecture, technical roadmaps, and key technical tradeoffs

  • Participate in technical planning and review sessions to stay fluent in the CTO's technical priorities and decisions

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business narratives for investors, customers, and leadership

  • Support evaluation of technical hires, vendors, and tools from an informed, technically credible perspective

Cross-Functional Program Management

  • Lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives that span departments and require tight coordination with the CTO's office

  • Manage major internal projects from conception through execution and measurement

  • Track and communicate progress, risks, blockers, and key decisions across the organization

  • Ensure nothing critical falls through the cracks

GTM & Revenue Operations Support

  • Partner with revenue leadership on pipeline analysis, forecasting, and performance metrics on the CTO's behalf

  • Support creation of enterprise proposals, commercial packages, and strategic sales collateral

  • Coordinate customer-facing strategic initiatives including POCs, pilots, and enterprise expansions

  • Help translate the CTO's technical vision into compelling business value for enterprise buyers

  • Communicate the ongoing and future plans for product development and introducing competitive features

Business Insights & Strategic Analysis

  • Conduct operational, financial, market, and competitive analyses to inform the CTO's strategy

  • Build structured memos, decision documents, and frameworks for CTO and leadership discussions

  • Prepare Board-level materials and investor updates alongside the CTO, Finance, and Operations

  • Synthesize complex information into clear recommendations for the CTO

Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives

  • Own time-sensitive, strategically critical workstreams as the company scales

  • Lead ambiguous, undefined projects that need structure and execution

  • Stand up new workflows, systems or processes where gaps exist

Required Experience

  • 3-5 years as a Chief of Staff or in a technical operations role

  • Technical background - a degree in Computer Science/Engineering, prior hands-on engineering or technical product experience, or equivalent - with the ability to engage in substantive technical conversations

  • Comfort reading and reasoning about system architecture, technical documentation, and engineering roadmaps

  • Exceptional analytical skills with ability to structure complex problems and synthesize insights

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication - you can distill complex topics for any audience

  • Proven track record of managing cross-functional projects in fast-moving environments

  • Strong business acumen with understanding of SaaS business models and enterprise sales

  • Demonstrated ability to create structure and clarity in high-ambiguity situations

  • Comfortable with data analysis and building dashboards/reporting frameworks

  • Experience working directly with C-level executives and Board members

What Makes You Stand Out

  • MBA from a top-tier program

  • Former software engineer, technical program manager, or solutions architect who transitioned into a strategic operating role - you can speak engineers' language and earn their trust

  • Previous Chief of Staff or similar strategic operating role at a startup, ideally supporting a CTO or engineering leader

  • Experience at a Series A-C stage company during hypergrowth in AI/ML

  • Deep understanding of enterprise software end-to-end development, solving customer facing issues, sales cycles and go-to-market strategy

  • Track record of driving operational improvements that resulted in measurable business impact

  • Experience building and scaling operating systems from the ground up

  • Hands-on technical fluency - whether through coding, architecture, or technical product work - that enables productive, credible conversations with engineering teams

What Makes This Role Different

Unlike traditional Chief of Staff roles that focus on executive support, you'll be:

  • Building systems: Creating the operating infrastructure that enables the CTO's organization to scale

  • Driving strategy: Leading critical strategic initiatives, not just tracking others' work

  • Partnering technically: Bringing enough hands-on technical depth to be a true thought partner to the CTO on engineering strategy and hard technical tradeoffs - not just an operational layer on top of the team

  • Access to the most innovative culture and venture partners

  • Operating cross-functionally: Working directly with GTM, Product, Engineering, and Finance leaders on the CTO's behalf

  • Solving ambiguity: Tackling the hardest, most undefined problems in the company

  • Influencing direction: Your analyses and recommendations directly shape the CTO's strategy

  • Scaling with us: Clear path to VP of Strategy & Operations or similar leadership role
