About this role

The Director, Compounding Operations is the enterprise owner of compounding operations across Ro’s pharmacy network. This role is accountable for operational execution, quality, compliance, performance, inspection readiness, and scalable growth across both sterile and non-sterile compounding operations.

Reporting directly to the VP of Compounding & Manufacturing, this leader oversees Lead Compounding Pharmacists across all current and future facilities, including Illinois and Florida. Site-level Lead Compounding Pharmacists and Pharmacists-in-Charge are responsible for local execution, while the Director defines the enterprise operating model, standards, systems, metrics, escalation pathways, and accountability framework required to drive consistent performance across the network. All compounding personnel align indirectly to this role through the site leadership structure.

This is a hands-on enterprise leadership position requiring strong operational discipline, quality oversight, regulatory judgment, and the ability to build and scale controlled compounding operations. The role ensures that practices are standardized, documented, and aligned with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> across all sites.

The Director partners closely with Pharmacists-in-Charge, Quality, Compliance, Operations, Legal, Product, and Supply Chain while maintaining clear accountability for cross-site consistency, performance management, operational controls, and escalation of compounding-related risks.

This leader is ultimately accountable for the systems and controls that support finished-product quality, release readiness, inspection readiness, and overall compounding performance across Ro’s pharmacy network.

The role is based on-site in Romeoville, Illinois, with travel to other compounding locations as needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end compounding operations across all sites, ensuring consistent execution, operational efficiency, and full regulatory compliance.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for USP <795>, <797>, and <800>, maintaining continuous inspection readiness and leading internal, Board of Pharmacy, and regulatory audits.

  • Standardize and continuously improve compounding workflows, batch records, documentation practices, policies and procedures, and training programs across all sites.

  • Establish and enforce rigorous batch record review and verification processes across technicians, pharmacists, and Quality Assurance.

  • Lead deviation investigations and corrective and preventive actions in partnership with the Quality team, serving as the escalation point for compounding and quality-related issues.

  • Partner with Pharmacists-in-Charge and site leadership to strengthen daily execution, accountability, and performance across facilities.

  • Define, monitor, and improve key operational and quality metrics, including deviations, right-first-time performance, and throughput.

  • Produce high-quality, data-driven reports on compounding strategy, operations, quality, and compliance.

  • Ensure the qualification, maintenance, and ongoing compliance of compounding equipment and facilities.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Compliance, Legal, and Product teams to support operational initiatives and new product introductions.

  • Support the hiring, training, and professional development of compounding pharmacists and technicians.

  • Build and sustain a culture of compliance, uncompromising safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmacy compounding operations, with demonstrated expertise in both sterile and nonsterile compounding.

  • Advanced working knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, and <800>, including experience supporting regulatory inspections and internal and external audits.

  • At least 2 years of leadership experience managing pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, or compounding operations teams.

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in sterile and nonsterile compounding environments, including workflows, equipment, documentation, and operational controls.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering with Quality and Compliance teams in a regulated healthcare environment to implement and sustain compounding quality and compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications
