About the Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer with 3 - 6 years of experience to join our engineering team and build scalable backend systems and data platforms that process large volumes of industrial data.

You will work on distributed systems, data processing, cloud infrastructure, and backend services, solving complex engineering challenges while collaborating closely with product and engineering teams.

How you’ll demonstrate Ownership

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices that support high-volume industrial data workloads.

  • Build and improve distributed data pipelines using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, and Flink.

  • Develop reliable, high-performance APIs and backend services with a focus on scalability, availability, and maintainability.

  • Work with large datasets and optimize data processing, storage, and retrieval workflows.

  • Contribute to system design and architecture discussions, making thoughtful technical decisions around scalability and reliability.

  • Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions to improve system performance and reliability.

  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and actively participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

The Impact you bring to Cognite

You will play a key role in building the backend and data infrastructure that powers Cognite’s industrial data platform. Your work will directly contribute to making large-scale industrial data more accessible, reliable, and performant for our customers.

You will have the opportunity to work on challenging distributed systems problems, handle large volumes of data, and contribute to a highly scalable cloud-native platform used across global industrial organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • 3 - 6 years of experience in software engineering, backend development, or distributed systems.

  • Strong programming experience in Java, Scala, or Python, with a solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.

  • Hands-on experience with backend services, microservices, REST APIs, and SQL/NoSQL databases.

  • Good understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance, and reliability concepts.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with distributed data technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, or Flink.

  • Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with Docker/Kubernetes or cloud-native technologies.

  • Experience with CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and production troubleshooting in large-scale systems.
