About this role

IT systems, expertise, and experience are central to Asana's mission of helping teams work together effortlessly. As an IT Technical Program Manager, you'll be a force multiplier across IT and Asana's cross-functional business partners. You will drive outcomes, programs, and operational rhythms that make IT highly effective and visible outside its own walls. IT TPM work is rarely IT-only: you'll be leading projects, programs, and processes that reach into Security, Product, Workplace, PeopleOps, Legal, and other business lines as a matter of course, not exception.

You'll join the team as a TPM, reporting to the IT TPM function lead, and take ownership of a dynamic portfolio of IT programs and projects. This is a high-autonomy role for someone who wants real ownership early: you'll be trusted to run point on your portfolio while helping shape how the broader IT TPM function operates.

This role is based in our San Francisco office with an office-centric hybrid schedule. The standard in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Most Asanas have the option to work from home on Wednesdays. Working from home on Fridays depends on the type of work you do and the teams with which you partner. If you're interviewing for this role, your recruiter will share more about the in-office requirements.

What you'll achieve

  • Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that span organizational boundaries. From IT infrastructure and AI adoption efforts to company-wide strategic initiatives in collaboration with Security, Product, Workplace, PeopleOps, Legal, and other partners.
  • Own your share of IT's process portfolio. You will fully own one or more highly visible IT processes and influence the development of all TPM processes. Throughout, you will maintain a focus on adaptation and continual improvement.
  • Run point on program communications. Keep stakeholders aligned, unblock teams, and build durable partnerships within and beyond IT.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate risks and dependencies, ensuring alignment across key stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Promote and evolve project management practice across IT. Create repeatable processes that leverage TPM best practices across the organization.
  • Drive adoption of policies, practices, and procedures across IT and Asana more broadly, through influence and tactful education rather than authority.
  • Bring a holistic view of the IT ecosystem to design and planning decisions, so solutions support our strategy and day to day operations.
  • Document and share knowledge so that processes and decisions are legible and repeatable by others, not dependent on any one person.
  • Help define how the TPM function operates. Partner with your manager to shape the team’s operating model, planning cadences, and processes.

About you

  • 6+ years of program management experience, with meaningful time working in or alongside IT organizations.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex, ambiguous, multi-stakeholder work with only high-level direction. You are comfortable creating structure rather than waiting for it.
  • Strong grasp of business drivers, with the judgment to align processes to impact, design workable solutions, and implement improvements rather than defaulting to how it's always been done.
  • Comfortable operating with high autonomy across multiple concurrent workstreams, stakeholders, and timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You enjoy distilling complex or ambiguous issues into actionable plans and can communicate clearly up, down, and across.
  • Demonstrates curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and leverage them to enhance productivity, collaboration, or decision-making.
  • You know when to solve a problem yourself and when to bring in the right partner. Your title history matters less than how you think and how you work with people.
  • Experience across IT domains: IT Infrastructure, Identity & Access, Networking, Automations & Support.
  • PMP or ITIL certification.

At Asana, we're committed to building teams that include a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, as this is critical to helping us achieve our mission. If you're interested in this role and don't meet every listed requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
