In August 2026, Meta filed notice with Washington state that it was cutting 168 more Seattle-area employees, most of them in Reality Labs, on top of the 1,500 Reality Labs jobs eliminated in January. What "AI infra" actually looks like on an ex-Reality Labs resume

An AI-infrastructure resume from an ex-Reality Labs engineer is not a machine-learning resume; it is a systems resume that happens to run models. Should I remove "Reality Labs" from my resume entirely?

No. Reality Labs is a credible employer brand, and recruiters at NVIDIA, Apple, and Google know exactly what shipping Quest software required. Keep "Reality Labs" as the employer line. Change what sits under it. Replace bullets like "built metaverse features for Horizon Worlds" with the actual systems work: "shipped low-latency rendering on Snapdragon XR2," "reduced hand-tracking model latency via on-device quantization," "co-owned OS-level compositor across millions of devices." Same job, different vocabulary, different applicant pile.

Is smart glasses or AI infra the better pivot for a mid-career XR engineer?

It depends on which layer of the stack you actually worked on. If you touched CUDA kernels, ML runtime, GPU profiling, distributed training, or on-device inference, AI infrastructure pays more and has 4.3x less competing supply per Refolk's index.
